Private lessons are a fantastic study aid, both to fine-tune your technique, and also for the opportunity to work on a one-to-one basis with a Dan grade.
In Kokoro Aikido, Sensei Michael runs and takes all private lessons, both for Kokoro students, and also outside organisations. Lessons can be arranged on a one-to-one basis, or with a larger group of students working in a group environment.
Aikido is extremely applicable in all real-life situations, and the confidence it builds can be used in any scenario, be it work, rest, or play. Several professional sportsmen (including Sedgley Park RUFC’s Gareth “Tank” Roberts) study Aikido in the close season and throughout the playing season to improve their internal strength (Aikido greatly improves hand/eye co-ordination and the body’s ability to use muscles and strength more effectively) and hone their movement skills. Cardio-vascular intensive sessions can also be planned if required.
Also, because of the subtle appearance, yet devastating results of correct application of technique, Aikido is the ideal art form Door Supervisors and Security officers, who can neutralise an aggressor with minimum effort, and in a relatively inconspicuous way, maintaining their professional image but ensuring their safety is paramount throughout the encounter. Advanced tuition involving weapons (Tanto knife, Staff, Katana, also extendable police-style batons) is available on request at no extra cost.
Lastly, Aikido has fantastic self-defence applications, and exceptionally effective restraints which can be taught and learnt in a relative short time. Ideal for public-facing employees, or people who deal with aggravated individuals, Aikido will improve your staffs’ confidence and in turn, improve their performance in demanding situations which could turn into aggressive or violent altercations. The confidence learned also improves communication and control of a situation – ultimately preventing the situation becoming inflamed.
Due to the coaching style of Michael, a day of coaching can be a brilliant team-building day, and, along with a whole host of traditional Japanese exercise to improve mind/body and hand/eye co-ordination which are simply fantastic in their simplicity, you and your staff are guaranteed to be laughing and learning for the duration of the day.
